The decision has two parts. *When* to do it: some flooring is easier before you move in. *Who* to buy it from: the builder, or an independent fitter after you've compared.

### Before you answer the builder

- Ask exactly which rooms and which product the price covers.
- Check whether underlay, door bars and trims are included.
- Get one independent installed quote for the same rooms and product.
- Check the deadline: builder options often close at a set build stage.
